Udupi, Nov 12: In recent developments, Congress leader Uday Kumar Shetty has voiced strong concerns over the arrest of artist Krishna Naik, who created the Parashurama statue in Karkala. Shetty raised multiple issues surrounding Naik's detention, claiming that those who should be held accountable remain unscathed while an artist is behind bars.
Uday Kumar Shetty remarked, "Krishna Naik, a struggling artist, is unjustly in jail, while those who should ideally be there are seated in the Legislative Assembly." He raised questions about the premature release of funds, alleging that an amount nearing Rs 1.5 crore was disbursed before the tender process was complete. "There is no documentation proving Krishna Naik purchased any bronze," he added, highlighting an alleged lack of transparency.
The fate of the incomplete Parashurama statue has also been called into question. Shetty raised concerns, stating, "Half of the Parashurama statue has disappeared—whether it was burned or buried, the police must find out." He demanded a thorough investigation to reveal the truth behind the statue's mysterious disappearance.
Shetty accused the government of failing to hold anyone accountable and argued that the matter could develop into a larger scandal. He remarked, “Despite the magnitude of the incident, MLA Sunil Kumar has not issued an apology.” Shetty asserted that Karkala, with its rich history and numerous achievers, deserves more transparency, especially regarding the statue project.
He called on MLA Sunil Kumar to address the public, provide clarity, and speak transparently about the theme park associated with the statue project. He added that if necessary, the engineers, officials, and even the MLA involved in the creation of the statue might face arrest.
Shetty also expressed curiosity over what Krishna Naik, currently in custody, might reveal during interrogation. Following a recent court order, the stay on the COD (Corps of Detectives) investigation has been lifted, allowing a comprehensive probe, including a potential CID investigation. "The court has ordered a full investigation to bring the facts to light," Shetty noted.
He further criticized the government for allegedly using 33 departments for political purposes and demanded the recovery of funds allocated to Krishna Naik, which never reached the artist’s account. “It’s time to end the arrogance and pride of the authorities involved,” Shetty concluded, urging for accountability and transparency in this case.
