Karkala: Car collides with gravel pile; one critically injured in highway mishap

Karkala, Dec 16: A car collided with a gravel pile carelessly dumped on the road during highway construction, leaving one passenger critically injured in an accident at Sanur.

Tejas and Prasad, residents of Moodbidri, were injured in the mishap, with one of them in a critical condition. The incident occurred near Sanur, close to Karkala, around 5 am, as they were returning from a volleyball tournament held in Brahmavar.

The driver, drowsy from lack of sleep, crashed into the gravel pile, causing the car to overturn. The impact led to severe injuries to one of the passengers.

Locals reported that a 108 ambulance reached the spot, provided first aid, and transported the injured to Mount Rotary Hospital in Alangar, Moodbidri, for further treatment. The operation was carried out by EMT Mantesh and pilot Chandrappa of the 108 ambulance service.
