Mangaluru, Dec 17: In a swift operation, the Bajpe police arrested a man accused of snatching a gold chain from an elderly woman near Ganesh Mill, Shibrikere in Tenka Yedapadavu village, Mangaluru taluk.
The incident occurred on December 12 at around 12:40 pm, when the accused, Abdul Rawoof alias Auto Rawoof, riding a scooter, approached the woman on a secluded road under the pretense of asking for directions, snatched her gold chain and fled.
Following the incident, a case of robbery was registered at the Bajpe police station.
Details of arrest
The special team formed by inspector Sandeep G S of Bajpe police traced the accused, identified as Abdul Rawoof alias Auto Rawoof (30), son of H Ibrahim, residing at House No. 2-196, Shaima Manzil, near Water Tank, Indira Nagar, Haleangadi. The police recovered the following items:
- A gold chain worth Rs 70,000
- A scooter worth Rs 50,000
- An autorickshaw worth Rs 50,000
- Other stolen assets
The accused has been produced before the court and is currently in judicial custody at Mangaluru District Prison.
Criminal background
Investigations revealed that Abdul Rawoof has been involved in a total of 10 cases of robbery and theft registered at police stations in Moodbidri, Mulki, Bajpe, Uppinangady, and Arehalli in Hassan district. He was released on bail just two months ago in connection with these cases.
Operation details
The successful operation was carried out under the guidance of police commissioner Anupam Agarwal IPS, and under the supervision of DCPs Siddharth Goel (law and order) and Dinesh Kumar (crime and traffic). The Mangaluru North ACP, Srikant K, led the efforts alongside inspector Sandeep GS. The team included PSIs Revansiddappa, Kumareshan, and Latha, and personnel Sujan, Manjunath, Rashid Sheikh, Basavaraj Patil, Chidanand, Chandrakant, Kenchappa, Bharama Badiger, Durga Prasad, Prem Kumar, Virupaksh, Parasappa, Prajwal, and others.
