Mangaluru, Dec 18: The Kavoor police, along with the city’s anti-drugs squad, conducted a major operation at Kuloor riverbank and apprehended three individuals in possession of a large quantity of drugs brought in for New Year celebrations. The arrested individuals have been identified as Devaraj (37), a resident of Sampige Nagar, Udyavara Post, Udupi; Mohammad Parvez Umar (25), a resident of Bandavara Paradise Building, Kinnimulki, near Ramachandra Line, Udupi; and Sheikh Taheem (20), a resident of Blue Moon Apartment, Ground Floor, Brahmagiri, Udupi.
The confiscated items include approximately 5 kg of ganja, 100 grams of MDMA, 7 grams of cocaine, 35 MDMA pills weighing 17 grams, 100 grams of charas, 8 grams of high-grade ganja, and 3 LSD strips. Additionally, a sharp knife, weighing scales, plastic covers, a Hyundai i10 car (registration number KA 19 MF 8591), and an unregistered Access 125 scooter were also seized.
Among the accused, Parvez is a repeat offender with three prior cases of ganja possession in Udupi district. Authorities believe more individuals are involved in this case, and further investigations are underway.
Operation setails
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Mangaluru city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal and supervised by deputy commissioners of police Siddharth Goel (law and order) and Ravishankar (crime and traffic). Assistant commissioner of police Srikant K led the operation, with active participation from Kavoor station inspector Raghavendra Baindoor and sub-inspector Mallikarjun Biradar.
The anti-drugs team, comprising officers Sunil, Basavaraj, Ashok, Halesh, and Anand, along with Kavoor police personnel Praveen, Nagarathna, Nagaraj, Sunil, and Kallappa, played key roles in apprehending the accused and seizing the contraband. Efforts to trace other suspects are ongoing.
