Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur

Kundapur, Dec 18: A team from the Mangaluru Forest Division, acting on reliable information about the illegal sale of ambergris at Kodi Beach, was attacked by locals on Wednesday, December 18, in the afternoon.

The forest officials, disguised and arriving in three vehicles, were conducting a raid when they were met with violent resistance. The team, including CID officers, was searching for evidence of the illegal trade when locals began assaulting them.

Several officers were injured and received treatment at the Kundapura Government Hospital. ASI Janaki from the Forest mobile squad has filed a case with the Kundapura police station.

It was reported that the forest team did not inform the local police about their operation. Two informants who had accompanied the team were also seriously assaulted during the raid.

ASI Janaki has filed charges against eight individuals, and police are expected to make arrests soon.

Further information is awaited.

Oh Rama devere prabhuve. Incha malpere balli ithind. Paapa ya. Looks like members of very poor minor community who are always crying that eprived of the govt facilities. Not only here, everywhere who ever enter their streets like police/ cid or govt officials they do the same thing mass attack including male female and children. That's why cid team didn't inform the local police as well as local team didn't appear in front out of fear.

Ambergris, or whale vomit, is a rare, waxy substance made in the stomach of sperm whales to handle undigested things like squid beaks. Over time, it washes up on beaches and develops a sweet smell, making it highly valued in perfumes.
