Brahmavar, Dec 19: In a heartwarming gesture of service and solidarity, the Catholic Sabha Brahmavar unit handed over the first completed house built as part of the Jubilee Year 2025 celebrations to deserving family of Jacob D’Silva and Cecil D’Silva, a daily-wage couple from the Brahmavar parish.
The couple, who tragically lost two children—one in childhood and the other at the age of 29 due to a heart attack — had been living in a house unfit to withstand the recent monsoon season.
The initiative to rebuild their home, spearheaded by the Catholic Sabha, began in June 2024 and was completed in December 2024. The new house, measuring 480 sq ft, includes a bedroom, hall, kitchen, and bathroom. The handing-over ceremony and blessing were held today at the Holy Family Church, under the guidance and blessings of parish priest, Fr John Fernandes.
The program began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony by the beneficiary couple, followed by the blessing of the house by Fr John Fernandes, parish priest Brahmavar.
A small stage programme was also organised to celebrate this milestone.
Raviprakash Gonsalves welcomed the gathering. Michael Furtado, vice-president of the Pastoral Committee, raised a toast, commending the Catholic Sabha’s initiative and wishing the family a brighter future.
Key contributors to the project were felicitated during the event, including house contractor Joyson Banz, project director Stany D’Souza, and electrical contractor Brayan Rebeiro.
Joel D’Almeida, president of the Catholic Sabha, shared the challenges faced during the project and highlighted the collective efforts that led to its successful completion. Stany B D’Souza acknowledged and read out the names of donors who made the project possible, while Fr John Fernandes extended his gratitude to everyone involved.
The project was supported by generous contributions from parishioners, well-wishers, and organisations such as Shashakt Charitable Trust, Humanity Trust, Kind Heart Trust, Secular Franciscan Ordination, Kuwait Brahmavar Welfare Association, Abbasia Konkani Association Kuwait, and Stree Sanghatan.
