Mangaluru, Dec 20: M Harish Kumar, an assistant teacher at the Hoskote Government Higher Primary School in Madhugiri, Koratagere, Tumakuru district, spent Rs 1 lakh to fulfill the dream of 25 students from his school to experience a flight journey from Mangaluru to Bengaluru.
The students completed their educational tour on Wednesday by flying from Mangaluru International Airport to Bengaluru.
The journey began with the students traveling to Mangaluru by train from Kunigal Railway Station. On Monday, they visited Kadri Rocks, followed by a tour of Pilikula, NMPT, Suratkal Lighthouse, and the beach on Tuesday. The students stayed overnight at the Pilikula Scouts Bhavan before boarding the flight on Wednesday.
The inspiration for this flight journey stems from a lesson on Neerja Bhanot, a flight purser who sacrificed her life during a 1986 flight hijacking, which is part of the sixth-grade syllabus.
Initially, there were plans to take the students to Delhi or Hyderabad by flight, but due to high ticket costs and logistical challenges, the destination was changed to Bengaluru.
Teacher Harish Kumar mentioned that the parents of these 25 students are daily wage labourers and farmers, which makes this experience even more special for the children.
