Beltangady, Jan 7: A house in Elaneeru, Malavantige village of the taluk, was gutted in a fire caused by an electrical short circuit, resulting in an estimated loss of Rs 30 lac.
The fire occurred at the residence of Prashant Y. R. Arecanut worth Rs 2 lac, coffee beans valued at Rs 1 lac, pepper corns worth Rs 50,000, along with clothes, utensils, and property records, were all destroyed in the incident.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the family members were at a neighbour’s house at the time of the mishap. Currently, the family is without shelter and has temporarily moved into the residence of their brother.
Local authorities, including the tahsildar, PDO, and village accountant, have been informed about the incident. Malavantige gram panchayat president Prakash Jain and Kalasa Mescom sub-division assistant engineer Chethan visited the site to assess the damages.
