Udupi: ‘Dvamdva’ Kannada film released on YouTube, special screening for journalists held

Udupi, Jan 11: Kannada art film ‘Dvamdva’ was officially released on a YouTube channel, with a special screening for journalists organized at the Udupi Press Club on January 10.

The film, which explores female roles in Yakshagana, has garnered recognition and been showcased at international film festivals.

The event was hosted by Benki Batchmates Productions and Konanur Productions in collaboration with the Udupi District Working Journalists' Association. Director Prithvi Konanur officially launched the film on YouTube.

Director Kling Johnson described Dvamdva as the first Kannada queer film to receive critical acclaim. The movie focuses on the life of Chukki, a resident of Udupi, who performs female roles in the traditional art form of Yakshagana. The film sensitively portrays Chukki's struggles and their journey through a poignant narrative.

Following the screening, the director engaged in a discussion with journalists, who shared their thoughts on the film.

The event was attended by Manipal University Prof Varadesh Hiregange, head of the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, Udupi District Working Journalists' Association president Rajesh Shetty, and actors Bhaskar Manipal, Prabhakar Kundar, Bensu Peter, Rajendra Nayak, Bharati T K, Sandeep Kumar, among others.
