Mangaluru, Jan 13: The State Bank service bus stand is in dire need of attention from elected representatives to resolve its persistent infrastructure issues.
A bus stand, as a public utility, is expected to provide basic amenities for passengers. While a renovation project costing Rs 4.2 crore was initiated a few years ago, work has remained incomplete for the past two years.
One of the key components of the renovation, the sunroof, has not been installed on three of the platforms, leaving passengers exposed to harsh sunlight and heavy rains. Only two platforms are partially covered, but even those lack seating arrangements, leaving passengers with no place to sit while waiting.
Additionally, there are no dustbins available, resulting in the accumulation of litter and an untidy environment. The uncovered platforms have also become sites for activities like fish drying, open urination, and other unsanitary practices, causing a foul smell and discomfort for commuters.
Despite repeated complaints from bus conductors and drivers, the lack of roofs and proper facilities continues to affect passengers, with no remedial measures taken to date.
