Karkala, Jan 15: A 22-year-old resident of Kukkundoor, Syed Saif, was arrested for obstructing police duties and aiding illegal sand transport near Sarvajna Circle in Kukkundoor. The accused, along with his car, has been taken into custody.

During a routine vehicle inspection led by Karkala town police sub-inspector Sandeep Kumar Shetty, a tipper truck was found transporting stolen sand. As the police pursued the truck, Syed Saif allegedly drove his car in a manner that blocked the path of the departmental vehicle, enabling the sand-laden truck to escape.

The accused reportedly drove the car as an escort for the tipper truck, deliberately creating obstacles to hinder the police from intercepting it. Police eventually stopped Syed Saif's car and detained him along with the vehicle.

Upon suspicion of drug consumption, the accused was subjected to a medical examination, which confirmed the use of marijuana.

A case has been registered at Karkala town police station, and further investigations are underway.
