Udupi: Former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat objects to traffic diversions at Kalsanka Junction

Udupi, Jan 18: The closure of the Ambagilu-Gundibailu route leading to Udupi city, with barricades installed at Kalsanka Circle, has caused significant inconvenience to the public.

Vehicles entering Udupi city from this route are now being diverted through Kadiyali, resulting in traffic congestion across other parts of the city. This unscientific measure has disrupted daily commutes, causing hardships for residents, students, and tourists, stated former MLA of Udupi, K Raghupathi Bhat.

He strongly urged the district administration to immediately reopen the road and restore the original traffic system.

Bhat pointed out that closing the Ambagilu-Gundibailu road has triggered a ripple effect of traffic congestion throughout the city. It has adversely affected people commuting for work, students traveling to schools and colleges, and tourists visiting Udupi.

He emphasised that road closures are not an effective solution to manage traffic flow. Instead, Bhat proposed installing traffic signal lights at Kalsanka Junction, which would facilitate smoother movement of vehicles without causing inconvenience to the public.

Bhat further noted that the tender process for installing traffic signals at key locations in the city has already been completed. He urged the administration to expedite the installation of signals at Kalsanka Junction.

He criticised the road closure as a measure that has reduced the workload of traffic police but increased difficulties for the public.

"In the interest of the people, the barricades on the Ambagilu-Gundibailu road must be removed immediately, and traffic signal lights should be installed at Kalsanka Junction to ensure smooth vehicular movement," he said.
