Mangaluru: St Aloysius AIMIT celebrates Onam with ‘Onaimit Ekaravam 2K26’

Mangaluru, Aug 22: The St Aloysius (Deemed to be University), AIMIT Centre, celebrated Onam through “Onamit Ekaravam 2K26 – One Campus, One Spirit, One Celebration” on August 22.

The celebration brought together students, faculty, and staff to celebrate Kerala’s rich cultural heritage while promoting Sustainable Development Goal 12 – Responsible consumption and production. The programme commenced with the traditional inauguration and lighting of the lamp, highlighting the significance of Onam, the harvest festival, and the legendary reign of King Mahabali, symbolising equality, prosperity, and well-being.

Dr Kiran Cotha SJ, director, AIMIT Centre, graced the occasion as the chief guest and appreciated the students for their enthusiasm and efforts in organising the celebration. He encouraged them to continue the spirit of unity, collaboration, and togetherness. A key focus of the programme was SDG 12, with students encouraged to celebrate responsibly by practising mindful consumption, minimizing waste, and avoiding unnecessary use of resources. The values of sharing, equality, and community associated with Onam were meaningfully connected with the principles of sustainability.

The cultural programme featured traditional performances including Onappattu, Thiruvathira, Parichamuttu Kali, and Chenda, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere. Various competitions encouraged creativity, teamwork, and cultural expression, with prizes sponsored by Palace Kitchen, while sweets were distributed among the campus community in the spirit of sharing.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, reinforcing the values of unity, cultural appreciation, responsible consumption, and sustainability.
