Mangaluru, Jan 28: The departments of aeronautical, automobile, marine and mechanical engineering of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru, organized a 5-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on ‘Advanced materials and manufacturing for engineering applications (AMMEA-2025)”. The inaugural function was presided over by Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal, SIT Mangaluru, and the chief guest for the event was Dr Sathyashankara Sharma, senior professor, department of mechanical and industrial engineering, MIT, Manipal. The inaugural function was held on January 27.
The chief guest, Dr Sathyashankara Sharma, delivered an insightful address highlighting the latest trends in manufacturing and materials, including advancements in additive manufacturing and the potential of smart materials in engineering applications. His address was well-received by the participants and set the tone for the sessions to follow.
The session was presided over by Dr Shrinivasa Mayya D, principal of Srinivas Institute of Technology, Mangaluru. In his presidential address, he underscored the significance of such faculty development programmes in enhancing the knowledge base and teaching skills of educators. He also shared valuable insights on the importance of non-metallic joining processes and their applications in modern engineering.
The heads of the departments Dr Shankar K S, HOD, mechanical engineering, Dr Lokesh V HOD, marine engineering, Dr Sandesh Kumar Rai HOD, automobile engineering, and Dr Praveen Shenoy HOD, aeronautical engineering extended their heartfelt wishes for the grand success of the FDP, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in promoting academic and industrial advancements.
The event commenced with a warm welcome by Prakash T, co-coordinator of the FDP, who welcomed the chief guest, dignitaries, and participants. Following this, Dr Rajesh Bhat, coordinator of the FDP, introduced the chief guest, Dr Sathyashankara Sharma, senior professor, department of mechanical and industrial engineering, MIT, Manipal. Dr Praveen Shenoy, head of the aeronautical engineering department, provided an overview of the 5-day FDP, emphasizing its objectives and the diverse topics to be covered during the sessions.
The inaugural function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Rajesh Bhat, who expressed gratitude to the chief guest, the principal, and the organizing team for their support and efforts in making the event a success. He also thanked the participants for their active involvement and enthusiasm. The programme was meticulously hosted by Vivek V Kumar, who ensured the seamless flow of the event.
