Udupi, Feb 10: Police have arrested three individuals in connection with a murder that took place nearly one and a half years ago near Karavali Junction in Udupi.

The arrested have been identified as Kanakappa Hanumanth Rodi (46), Yamanoor Tippanna Maran Basari (24), and Yamanoorappa Jedi alias Rodi Yamanoorappa (26), all residents of Bilakal Kushtagi in Koppal district.

The incident occurred between the night of October 16 and the morning of October 17, 2023. The victim, Kittur Siddappa Shivanappa Hubballi, was attacked with a weapon, and his right hand was severed before he was killed by unidentified assailants near Karavali Junction. A case was registered at the Udupi town police station.

The murder was reportedly linked to a dispute over a missing piece of clothing. On the night of the incident, Siddappa had assaulted Chinnu Patel Hubballi, a friend of the second accused, Yamanoor Tippanna Maran Basari, around midnight. When Basari confronted Siddappa regarding the attack, he too was assaulted. Seeking revenge, the three accused later assaulted Siddappa with the intent to kill him. Basari allegedly attacked him with a machete, resulting in Siddappa’s death.

The arrested individuals have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
