Puttur: Scooter-car collision on Mangaluru-Bengaluru highway claims one life

Puttur, Feb 10: A scooter rider lost his life after being hit by a car on National Highway 75 near Shiradi.

The deceased has been identified as K J John (59), a resident of Mittanaje Kottayil in Shiradi village.

The accident occurred when John, who had visited Shiradi town, was returning home. As he attempted to take a U-turn in front of the Indian Oil petrol pump, a car traveling from Bengaluru to Dharmasthala collided with his scooter from behind.

John sustained severe injuries and was initially taken to Ashwini Hospital in Nellyadi. He was later being shifted to Mangaluru for advanced treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way. He is survived by his father, wife, three daughters, and a son. A case has been registered at Uppinangady police station.

At the time of the accident, former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was traveling on the same route from Bengaluru to Mangaluru. The injured victim was transported to a private hospital in Nellyadi in a vehicle accompanying the former MP.
