Udupi: Cattle transport vehicle overturns - Two men injured, one flees

Udupi, Feb 10: A pickup vehicle transporting cattle overturned near Ambagilu junction in the early hours of February 9, injuring two individuals while another managed to flee.

According to Udupi town police, PSI Puneet Kumar was on night patrol duty when he received a call from the patrolling staff around 4 am, informing him about an accident at Ambagilu Junction. Upon reaching the spot, the police found a pickup vehicle (KA 22 AA 4697) overturned, with three cattle inside and two others lying on the ground with injuries on their back and waist.

Two injured individuals were found near the vehicle and identified themselves as Sheetal Ganapati Bagannar and Yamanappa Ramesh Arjun Wad. A third person, identified as Parashu, had fled the scene.

When questioned about the transport and purchase of the cattle, the duo failed to produce any valid documents or receipts. They claimed they were transporting the cattle from Sankeshwar to Mangaluru.

The injured men were shifted to a hospital for medical attention. A veterinary officer was called to examine the five cattle, and further legal proceedings were carried out in the presence of witnesses. The police have taken the cattle into custody for further action.

A case has been registered at Udupi town police station.
