Bantwal, Feb 15: In a tragic accident at Ammunje during midnight on Friday, an auto-rickshaw lost control and fell into a roadside drain, killing the driver on the spot and injuring three child passengers.
The accident occurred at Ganemar in Ammunje village, Bantwal taluk. The deceased, identified as 37-year-old Mahabala Poojary, a resident of Ammunje, was an unmarried youth.
Mahabala was returning home with his relatives—Tushar, Bhavith, and Pradeep—after visiting a fair in Mijar, Moodbidri, when the incident took place. The accident reportedly happened just 500 meters away from their home.

The rickshaw, which went out of control, overturned and fell into the drain. The driver was trapped under the vehicle and died on the spot, while the three child passengers sustained minor injuries.
A case has been registered at the Panemangalore traffic police station.
