Bantwal, Feb 15: In a significant development for the Koraga and Jeenukuruba communities of Dakshina Kannada, the Prime Minister’s Jan Man Yojana has sanctioned Rs 20 crore for their upliftment. Capt Brijesh Chowta, MP for Mangaluru emphasised that the initiative aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of bringing all sections of society into the mainstream.
The event, held at Babanakatte in Ananthadi village, saw the handover of a newly built house to a Koraga family. "The dream is to empower every community and bring them into the mainstream," Capt Chowta said at the housewarming ceremony.

He highlighted the BJP's commitment to addressing the needs of marginalized communities through health, shelter, and education.
MLC Kishore Botyadi also spoke at the event, calling the Koraga community "the root of Hindu society" and stressing that their problems should be addressed for spiritual reward. "We must work together to bring such communities into the mainstream," he urged.
The ceremony recognised key contributors to the house's construction, including native doctor Gangadhar Pandit, whose support was vital, and Karunakar Rai, who ensured the electricity setup.
BJP Mandal leaders, including Sanath Kumar Rai, Sujata Suresh (Grama Panchayat president), Geetha Chandrashekhar (former Taluk Panchayat member), and Nagesh (Secretary of Maani BJP Shakti Kendra), were central to organising the event.
The Ananthadi BJP Mahashakti Kendra president, Mahabala Poojari, presided over the ceremony. Other BJP leaders like Shivakumar P. (president of BJP Puttur City), Sudarshan B, Dinesh Amturu, Pushparaj Chowta, Madhav Mawe, Sandesh Shetty, Rashmith Shetty, Taniyappa Gowda, and others were also present.
In the morning, the chief priest of Ananthadi Sri Ulltali Temple, Gopalakrishna Bannintaya, conducted religious rituals to bless the new home.
