Daijiworld impact: Matsyagandha Express makes first run with LHB coaches

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (TP)

Udupi, Feb 17: The Matsyagandha Express made its first run with newly introduced LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches through Konkan Railway Station on February 17.

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary officially inaugurated the LHB coaches by traveling in them.

Daijiworld.com had previously reported on the issues faced by passengers on the Matsyagandha Express and the need for its upgradation. The train, which serves thousands of commuters daily, was outdated and uncomfortable. In response, modern, comfortable, and spacious LHB coaches were introduced, marking a significant improvement.

Social media influencer Deeraj Shetty Mijar, who was the first to raise the issue on social media, told Daijiworld.com, “Matsyagandha is an emotion for us. This train remained unchanged for many years. Based on public complaints, I posted a video on my social media page requesting the introduction of LHB coaches. The train has been in operation for 25 years, and now, the old coaches have finally been replaced with new ones. The inaugural run of the upgraded train was on February 17. Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary supported this cause. The new coaches are more comfortable, spacious, and quieter, making journeys more convenient.”

MP Kota Srinivas Poojary stated, *“After watching Deeraj’s video highlighting the issues with the Matsyagandha Express, I reached out to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and State Minister Somanna and submitted a request. With approval from the Union, the upgraded Matsyagandha train, based on a German model, was introduced. The train now features immediate accident indication and is designed to be more passenger-friendly and less noisy.

Additionally, a development plan worth Rs 30 to Rs 40 crore has been proposed for the Konkan Railway Station, including improved parking and other facilities. The design will be completed by March 1 and will then proceed to the tendering stage. Our primary goal is to integrate Konkan Railway into the Indian Railways network. The chief minister and other ministers have extended their support for this initiative.”*

MLA Yashpal Suvarna, railway officials, and other dignitaries were present at the event.

All credit to our MPs Shri Kota Shrinivas Poojary and Captain Chowta whose sincere efforts have borne fruit. Compare this with the 10 years of non performance of the earlier MPs Nalin Kateel and Shobha. Sincerely hope the local MLA’s also work sincerely for their constituents

It's good news after so many years. There are two trains to Mangalore but no seats available for people who want to travel from Mumbai to Mangalore as all tickets are booked by people who want to travel to Goa or Konkan region. If certain compartments are reserved for people traveling to Mangalore, will be a great help.

Finally, the Kokan Railway managed to change the Matsyagandha coach with LHB coach. Our neighbouring state (Kerala) has got 3 Vande Bharat train service. We appreciate our on going Ministers for taking this matter seriously and put forward to our Railway Minister. No sooner we should have early morning Vande Bharat train service from Mumbai to Mangalore that will benefit our people and economic growth of our state including tourism.
