BJP set for grand comeback in Delhi; swearing-in at Ramlila Maidan

New Delhi, Feb 19: After a gap of 27 years, BJP is set to reclaim power in the national capital with a grand swearing-in ceremony at the historic Ramlila Maidan on Thursday. The event will mark a significant political shift as the new Chief Minister takes charge, ending AAP’s decade-long reign.

A key highlight of the ceremony will be the presence of cab and auto drivers, along with slum dwellers sections actively wooed by all parties with poll promises and freebies in the run-up to the elections.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva is expected to invite former AAP Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi to the ceremony. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena will administer the oath of office to the new CM and the council of ministers at noon.

The high-profile event will witness the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, and Chief Ministers from various BJP-ruled states. BJP leaders and workers who played a key role in the party’s campaign will also be part of the gathering.

The swearing-in will be preceded by a cultural programme featuring music and patriotic songs.

BJP’s decisive victory saw the party clinching 48 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly, denying AAP a fourth consecutive term. AAP, led by Kejriwal, managed to win 22 seats, while Congress failed to open its account for the third consecutive time.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory on X, urging citizens to follow special arrangements in view of the grand ceremony at Ramlila Maidan.
