Kharge holds AICC leaders responsible for electoral results and party strength

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 19: In a key meeting with All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretaries and state in-charges, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized their responsibility for both strengthening the party organisation and delivering positive electoral results in their respective states. He stressed that each leader would be held accountable for their performance.

Kharge raised concerns over alleged voter list manipulations, accusing the BJP of removing Congress supporters’ names and relocating voters to different polling stations, actions that were also brought up by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha.

He further criticized the government for influencing the Chief Election Commissioner's (CEC) selection process by excluding the Chief Justice of India from the committee, violating the Supreme Court's directive. Kharge also echoed Gandhi’s concern about the ineffective role of the Leader of Opposition in the selection process, calling it a mere "certification."

The Congress leader also targeted Prime Minister Modi for not defending India's trade interests during his visit to the U.S., accusing him of allowing loss-making trade deals and failing to protect Indian citizens, particularly in light of the mistreatment of Indian nationals being deported.

Kharge renewed Congress’ commitment to the ‘Save Constitution Campaign,’ which will run for the next year, using initiatives like padyatras, debates, and public meetings to strengthen the party's organisation. He praised Congress leaders in Delhi for their efforts despite limited resources, urging them to keep up the momentum and engage with the public to position the Congress as the leading opposition force.
