Chennai, Feb 22: Marking the 8th anniversary of Makkal Needhi Maiyam (MNM), actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan reiterated the importance of preserving the Tamil language and warned against linguistic imposition. Addressing party cadres, he highlighted Tamil Nadu’s historical resistance against Hindi imposition and emphasized linguistic pride.
“Tamilians have lost their lives for a language. Don’t play with those things. Even children here know what language they need,” Haasan asserted, underlining the deep-rooted sentiment for linguistic autonomy.

Reflecting on his political journey, Haasan acknowledged past criticisms and admitted that entering politics earlier might have positioned him differently. “I feel I lost because I entered politics too late. If I had done so 20 years ago, my speech and position would have been different,” he remarked.
Looking ahead, Haasan outlined MNM’s ambitions, asserting that the party's influence would soon be seen in Parliament and the Tamil Nadu Assembly. He urged party workers to gear up for the 2026 state elections, promising that MNM’s voice will be heard at both national and state levels.
