Mumbai, Feb 26: Popular podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, whose controversial remarks on a YouTube show sparked outrage, has admitted to making a “mistake”, Maharashtra Cyber officials confirmed on Monday.

Allahbadia was summoned in connection with his comments on comedian Samay Raina’s YouTube show, India’s Got Latent, which triggered widespread backlash and multiple FIRs.

According to officials, Allahbadia made crude remarks about parents and sex, leading to strong criticism. The Maharashtra Cyber and Mumbai Police are currently investigating the case under obscenity laws.

On Monday, Allahbadia and fellow YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani appeared separately before Maharashtra Cyber to record their statements regarding the case.

“In his statement, Allahbadia admitted that he made a mistake by making controversial comments on the YouTube show, for which he is facing criticism,” an official said.

He also acknowledged that the specific words he used during the show were inappropriate. Allahbadia further stated that he attended the show only as a favour to his friend, Samay Raina, and did not charge any fee for his appearance.

On Tuesday, social media influencer Apoorva Makhija recorded her statement in connection with the India’s Got Latent controversy. Makhija is among those named in the obscenity case registered by Maharashtra Cyber.

The authorities have also summoned actor Rakhi Sawant to record her statement on February 27, as she was a guest on the show. Meanwhile, Samay Raina’s statement is yet to be recorded, an official confirmed.

Additionally, the Assam Police have launched their own investigation into the obscenity case against Allahbadia and others, adding another layer to the legal proceedings.
