Sarzora, Mar 3: In a unanimous decision, the gram sabha of Sarzora village panchayat on Sunday firmly rejected the proposed railway station in the village, citing ecological concerns and the threat of uncontrolled migration.
At a meeting chaired by Sarpanch Leona Fernandes, members reiterated their strong opposition to the project and also resolved to resist any attempt to convert agricultural land into settlement zones. The panchayat had previously passed a resolution against the railway station, which has already been forwarded to the government.

“The gram sabha has once again reaffirmed its stand against the proposed railway station. We will not allow any project that threatens our village’s ecology and traditional way of life,” said Sarpanch Fernandes.
Additionally, the gram sabha passed a resolution demanding access to Sarzora lake, protesting the water resources department’s restrictions. Villagers insisted that the lake should remain open for local residents, at least for certain hours daily.
Panchayat member Sabita Mascarenhas emphasized that the people of Sarzora will remain vigilant to prevent any backdoor attempts to set up the railway station, despite claims by railway authorities that the proposal is for a nearby location.
