Mangaluru, Mar 16: In a historic crackdown, Mangaluru police have busted the largest drug network in Karnataka’s history, seizing 37.87 kg of MDMA worth Rs 75 crore.
The Mangaluru CCB police arrested two South African nationals in Bengaluru for allegedly supplying drugs to various locations across the state and beyond. The accused have been identified as Bamba Fanta (31) and Abigail Adonis (30).

CCB's relentless investigation
In 2024, the police had arrested a drug peddler, Haider Ali, from a lodge near Pumpwell for selling narcotics. Further investigation led to the arrest of a Nigerian national, Peter Ikedi Belonwo, in Bengaluru, who was supplying drugs to Ali. During this operation, 6.248 kg of MDMA was seized.
Following a six-month-long probe, Mangaluru CCB police uncovered a massive drug syndicate. It was revealed that MDMA was being transported via flights from Delhi to Bengaluru and other parts of the country.
On March 14, police apprehended two South African nationals who had traveled from Delhi to Bengaluru by air. The arrests were made near Electronic City in Bengaluru, where police seized 37.585 kg of MDMA, valued at Rs 75 crore, along with two trolley bags, Rs 18,000 cash, passports and four mobile phones. The accused used to supply the drugs to Bengaluru and other Nigerian peddlers and travel with fake passports and visa, said city police commissioner Anupam Agarwal.
