Panaji, Mar 22: In a late-night development, Agassaim police have registered a criminal case against suspended Goa University assistant professor Pranav Naik in connection with the alleged paper leak scandal.

Based on a complaint filed by GU Registrar Prof S N Dhuri, Naik has been charged with trespassing, housebreaking, forgery, and cheating under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police sources confirmed that he will soon be summoned for questioning.

As per the FIR, Naik allegedly duplicated keys of multiple faculty cabins and unlawfully accessed them without permission. He is also accused of breaching privacy and tampering with examination papers to favor a particular female student, thereby compromising the integrity of the evaluation process.

Following a fact-finding committee report, the university lodged a formal complaint, prompting police action. The matter will also be placed before the executive council in its March-end meeting for further disciplinary action against Naik, who remains under suspension.

Meanwhile, the Goa government has constituted a high-level inquiry committee, led by retired High Court judge RMS Khandeparkar, to probe the alleged leak. The panel includes former DIG Bosco George, ex-GU registrar Radhika Nayak, and Prof MRK Prasad of VM Salgaonkar Law College.

Police investigations are underway, and further action will be taken based on the inquiry findings.
