Bengaluru, Mar 25: The Karnataka government has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing internal reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs) in government jobs, with action expected soon after the submission of an interim report by the Justice (Retd) Nagamohan Das committee.

Addressing the media at the Chief Minister’s Office, home minister G Parameshwara stated that the Congress government is determined to honour its election manifesto promise by ensuring internal quota implementation for SCs.

"The Nagamohan Das committee has assured us that the interim report will be submitted within a week. Once received, CM Siddaramaiah will hold deliberations and initiate the necessary steps for implementation," he said.

Social welfare minister Dr H C Mahadevappa informed that a high-level meeting was chaired by the Chief Minister, where senior ministers reviewed the progress of the internal reservation process.

"The committee has compiled crucial empirical data, which will provide a clear direction. A proposal for swift implementation has been put forward, and all related aspects have been thoroughly examined," he added.

• No backlog vacancies, promotions, or new appointments will be processed until internal reservation is implemented.

• The majority of government departments have submitted necessary data for quota allocation.

• The government will strictly adhere to Supreme Court directives regarding reservation policies.

When asked about deputy CM DK Shivakumar’s alleged remarks on constitutional changes over Muslim reservation, Parameshwara distanced the government from any controversy.

"I am unaware of the context of his statement. However, our party remains steadfast in upholding constitutional values. This commitment was reaffirmed at our recent ‘Jai Bapu, Jai Bhim, Jai Constitution’ convention in Belagavi," he asserted.

Ministers KH Muniyappa, RB Thimmapur, and Shivaraj Tangadagi were also present at the meeting. The government is expected to announce further steps once the committee submits its report in the coming days.
