Mangaluru, March 26: The Diocese of Mangalore is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Fr Gerald Pinto, who entered eternal rest at St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu, on Wednesday, March 26, at noon. He was 72 years old.
A native of Bondel, Fr Gerald Pinto was born on October 2, 1953, to the late Sylvester R Pinto and the late Benny Pinto. He was ordained a priest on May 4, 1982, and dedicated over four decades of his life to priestly service.

Priestly ministry
Throughout his long and dedicated service, Fr Gerald Pinto worked in various capacities within the Diocese of Mangalore, leaving an indelible mark through his pastoral leadership and unwavering commitment to the people he served.
His journey in priestly ministry began as assistant parish priest at Cascia in 1982, followed by roles at Derebail (1982-1984), Moodbelle (1984-1986), and Vittal (1986-1987). He then served as parish priest in multiple parishes, including Pavur (1987-1991), Belve (1991-1997), Basur (1997-2004), Panir (2004-2005), Kulur (2005-2010), Fermai (2010-2012), Shambur (2015-2021), and Mariashram (2021-2023). Additionally, he served as Socius at Palimar (2012-2013) and at St Antony Ashram (2013-2014).
Fr Pinto also contributed as the assistant administrator at Father Muller Homeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Deralakatte, from 2014 to 2015. He spent the final years of his life on medical leave at St Zuze Vaz Home, Jeppu, from 2023 until his passing.
Known for his humility, dedication, and compassionate pastoral care, Fr Gerald Pinto’s life of ministry was characterised by his deep commitment to his parishioners and selfless service. His pastoral leadership touched the lives of many, and he will be remembered fondly for his unwavering devotion to the people of his parishes.
Funeral service
The Funeral Mass and burial service for Fr Gerald Pinto will be held on Friday, March 28, at 9:30 am at St Vincent Ferrer Church in Valencia.
The Diocese of Mangalore expresses its profound gratitude for Fr Pinto’s life and ministry, offering prayers for the repose of his soul. "May he rest in the eternal peace of the Lord. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul rest in peace," the Diocese said.
