Udupi, April 9: In a significant achievement, the Udupi Town police have successfully traced and recovered 27 lost mobile phones, valued at Rs 4.5 lac, and returned them to their rightful owners. This was made possible through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, an initiative launched by the Government of India to track and recover stolen or lost mobile devices.

The recovery operation was led by Udupi Town police inspector Manjunath V Badiger, along with sub-inspectors Puneeth Kumar B E, Eranna Shiragumpi, Bharatesh Kankanawadi, and Gopalakrishna Jogi, supported by the police station’s technical staff, including PC Vinay Kumar.

Complaints about the lost mobile phones were registered through the Karnataka State Police (KSP) app, which enabled the authorities to block the devices via the CEIR portal, allowing them to track and recover the phones.

So far in 2025, the Udupi Town police have successfully recovered a total of 32 lost mobile phones, valued at approximately Rs 4.5 lakh, which have been returned to their respective owners.

On April 9, 2025, a formal handover event was held at the Udupi Town police station, where 27 of the recovered phones were returned to their owners.

The ceremony was presided over by Udupi sub-division deputy superintendent of police (DySP) Prabhu D T, along with police inspector Manjunath V Badiger, and sub-inspectors Puneeth Kumar B E, Eranna Shiragumpi, Bharatesh Kankanawadi, and Gopalakrishna Jogi.

This successful recovery not only highlights the efficiency of the CEIR portal but also showcases the commitment of the Udupi Town police in ensuring that lost or stolen property is returned to its rightful owners.
