Panaji, Apr 10: With an eye on securing a stronger mandate in the next Goa assembly elections, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Wednesday declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to win more than 27 out of 40 seats in the upcoming 2027 state polls.
Addressing enthusiastic party workers in Panaji, Sawant exuded confidence in the party’s growing acceptance and said the BJP’s vote share must increase from 33.36% to 52% to achieve the target. “We have to ensure that in 2027, we have more than 27 assembly seats in Goa,” he stressed.

The BJP, which formed the government in 2022 with the support of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and three Independent MLAs after bagging 20 seats, currently leads the coastal state in its third consecutive term.
Sawant also expressed unwavering belief that the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, would comfortably return to power at the Centre in 2029, increasing its current Lok Sabha tally. “Due to Modiji’s vision, BJP will cross the 300 mark in the next general elections,” he asserted.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP had won 240 seats, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) collectively secured 293.
The Chief Minister urged party karyakartas to actively reach out to the masses and highlight the developmental work undertaken by both the central and state governments. “Focus on human resource development and infrastructure must be showcased,” he advised.
Meanwhile, speaking to media after the meeting, Goa BJP President Damodar Naik called for greater discipline among the party's elected representatives. “When we formed the government in 2001, there was strong discipline. After successive wins, we notice a slight drop. MLAs must listen to people’s voices,” he said.
With preparations for 2027 already in motion, the BJP appears to be setting the stage for yet another strong electoral push in Goa.
