Panaji, Apr 18: Goa’s long-awaited water taxi project is set to make progress with a feasibility study by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) next month. The team will evaluate proposed routes, infrastructure, and logistics for water taxis along Goa’s inland waterways.

Proposed routes include:

• Panaji-Divar-Old Goa
• Panaji-Chorao Island
• Vasco-Margao-Cortalim
• Calangute-Baga-Candolim

Additional routes may be added later. The study, part of a national initiative, will also explore key decisions like solar-powered boats, passenger capacity, and operational models.
Goa first proposed the project in 2019-20, and it was revisited during a recent finance commission meeting. The central government aims to introduce water taxis in 18 locations across India, with KMRL preparing the preliminary report.

Other cities identified for similar initiatives include Guwahati, Jammu and Kashmir, Andaman, Lakshadweep, and more.
