Mangaluru, Apr 27: The forest department has delivered good news to tourists, especially trekking enthusiasts, by lifting the ban on trekking at five major trekking spots in Karnataka. Trekking activities will be allowed again from May 1.
The restrictions had been imposed at various trekking paths in the Kudremukh Wildlife Division, including Netravathi Peak, Kudremukh Peak, Narasimha Parvatha, Hidlumane Falls, and Kodachadri, due to the dry season and to ensure the safety of trekkers. However, as most forest areas have now received ample rainfall, trekking will resume from May 1.
Online booking mandatory
According to a release by the deputy conservator of forests of the Kudremukh Wildlife Division, tourists must book tickets online to undertake trekking activities.
Why was ban imposed?
During the summer, incidents of wildfires are a major concern. The Malavanthige village area, known for its scenic spots within the Kudremukh National Park limits, is a popular destination for trekkers and waterfall visitors. Even a small spark during the dry season could cause massive forest fires.
Despite repeated warnings to tourists, many continued to act irresponsibly, prompting the forest department to impose a ban for safety reasons.
Summer showers offer relief
This year, with the onset of summer showers in March and continued rainfall, the forest areas have become lush and green again. Streams and water bodies have started flowing, significantly reducing the risk of forest fires. With this improved situation, permission for trekking has been granted again, just in time for the summer holidays.
Tourists and trekkers are urged to prioritize environmental cleanliness during their visits.

• Strict action will be taken against those found engaging in unauthorised activities within the forest.
• Trekking is permitted only during daylight hours (morning to evening).
• No overnight stays are allowed.
• Tourists must adhere to forest department rules, including maintaining cleanliness.
