Barcelona, May 1: Spanish football prodigy Lamine Yamal etched his name in FC Barcelona's storied history by becoming the youngest player ever to clock 100 competitive appearances for the club—aged just 17 years and 291 days.
The milestone came during a high-octane UEFA Champions League semifinal first-leg clash against Inter Milan at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, where Yamal not only hit the 100-game mark but also delivered a scintillating performance, scoring a goal and striking the woodwork twice in a pulsating 3-3 draw.
Barca manager Hansi Flick heaped praise on the young winger post-match. “He showed us the way by scoring to make it 2-1. He’s a fantastic player, and you can see his quality in big games. It’s great to have him here,” said Flick.
Yamal broke the previous club record held by teammate Gavi, who reached the century mark at 19 years and 29 days. He now tops a list of elite young talents including Bojan Krkic, Pedri, and Ansu Fati.
His landmark appearance follows closely on the heels of Barcelona’s Copa del Rey triumph—clinched with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Real Madrid in Seville—cementing a week of celebration for the Catalan club.
Yamal, who made his senior debut on April 29, 2023, at just 15 years, 9 months, and 16 days, has since shattered record after record. From becoming the youngest player to score in the UEFA European Championship (aged 16 years, 362 days), to being the youngest Barcelona player to feature in a Champions League match (16 years, 68 days), his meteoric rise continues to dazzle football fans worldwide.
In the Champions League quarterfinals last month, he became the second youngest scorer ever in the latter stages of the tournament, behind only Bojan.
As FC Barcelona continue to look toward a future built on youth and flair, Yamal’s name is now firmly etched in the annals of club history—and at just 17, he’s only getting started.
