New Delhi, May 3: Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja has drawn comparisons between Shubman Gill’s composed batting style and Virat Kohli’s trademark consistency, praising the young Gujarat Titans (GT) captain for his technical excellence and run-scoring ability.
Gill led from the front with a commanding 76-run knock at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, powering GT to 224/6 against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The comprehensive 38-run victory elevated GT to second on the IPL 2025 points table, level on 14 points with leaders Mumbai Indians.
“Shubman Gill is just so consistent—it’s become routine. The way he builds his innings, waits for the bowler to err, and rarely gives his wicket away reminds me of Kohli,” Jadeja said during commentary on JioStar. “Skill-wise, he’s exceptional. His off-side play was crisp, and those big sixes—especially the ones off Pat Cummins—were new dimensions to his game.”
Gill now has 465 runs from ten matches, placing him fourth in the tournament's run charts, just behind his opening partner B Sai Sudharsan.
Jadeja also commended GT’s fielding intensity, calling it a response to their recent defeat against Rajasthan Royals. “Their energy was the real difference today. Rashid Khan’s catch, the diving stops, everything had urgency. This was a fired-up GT side determined to bounce back,” he said.
On the bowling front, pacer Prasidh Krishna continued his strong form, claiming 2 for 19 in four overs. He now tops the wicket-takers' list, overtaking Josh Hazlewood.
Former spinner Pragyan Ojha credited Krishna’s success to the support from GT’s think tank, particularly head coach Ashish Nehra. “He’s bowling with real clarity. Nehra has always backed hard-length bowlers, and Prasidh fits that model perfectly. With that trust, his confidence and performance have soared,” Ojha noted.
GT now get a three-day breather before a high-stakes clash with Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on May 6.
