Mangaluru, May 3: In response to recent communal tensions, state home minister Dr G Parameshwara on Saturday announced the formation of an Anti-Communal Task Force for Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts to maintain peace and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
"The task force will be modelled on the lines of the Anti-Naxal Force," the minister said, adding that it will be established within a week. The unit will be granted full legal powers to act against those involved in communal activities, including conspirators and supporters.

“The task force will have a clear mandate to take strong legal action against anyone indulging in or encouraging communal violence. All powers under the law will be vested in them,” he stated.
Dr Parameshwara further added that officials have already been directed to initiate legal action against individuals making provocative speeches or inflammatory statements.
“We will deal with such elements with an iron hand,” he warned, reaffirming the government’s commitment to ensuring peace and harmony in the communally sensitive coastal region.
However, the government remains vigilant and committed to acting swiftly against any communal forces that attempt to disrupt peace and harmony. "Our foremost objective is to ensure that this region remains peaceful and inclusive. We are determined to prevent the recurrence of any such communal incidents."
Police officials have been directed to take stringent action against individuals involved in making provocative speeches or engaging in divisive activities. Law and order will be upheld without compromise, he said.
The minister also informed that the government is considering a gradual tapering of the Anti-Naxal Force, as there is currently no Naxal presence in the state.
