Kundapur, May 7: In a heartbreaking incident reported from the temple town of Kollur, a 32-year-old member of the much-anticipated Kantara 2 film crew drowned in the Souparnika river on the evening of May 6, sending shockwaves through both the film fraternity and local residents.

The deceased has been identified as Kabeel, a native of Kottayam, Kerala. According to sources, Kabeel, along with two other crew members, had ventured into the river for a swim after completing their day's work. However, tragedy struck when Kabeel reportedly lost control and was swept away by the current.

Local authorities rushed to the spot upon receiving information, but by then, it was too late. His body was later retrieved with the help of emergency response teams and local volunteers.

Kollur police have registered a case and begun further investigation into the matter. The Kantara 2 team, currently involved in shooting portions of the film in the scenic coastal belt, is said to be in deep shock following the incident.

The Souparnika river, though picturesque, has previously been flagged for strong undercurrents in certain stretches, especially during the pre-monsoon season.
