Berlin, May 11: Bayern Munich marked a double celebration on Saturday: clinching the Bundesliga title with a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach and bidding an emotional farewell to club legend Thomas Müller in his final home game.
Müller, making his 750th appearance for Bayern, led the team out to a thunderous reception and fan-led choreography that honored his incredible contribution over two decades, which includes 13 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns. Though he didn’t score, Müller’s influence was palpable, and he left the pitch in the 84th minute to a standing ovation and a guard of honor from his teammates.
The game itself saw Michael Olise play a starring role, assisting Harry Kane’s 25th goal of the season and later scoring a brilliant second in stoppage time after a slick combination with Leroy Sané. Kane made Bundesliga history, becoming the first Bayern player to net 25 goals in each of his first two seasons.
Manuel Neuer, returning from injury, was in top form between the sticks, denying Monchengladbach's best efforts and preserving a clean sheet with several clutch saves.
Manager Vincent Kompany praised Müller's legacy, saying, “In the years to come, we'll truly realize just how important he was for this club.”
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga:
• Holstein Kiel and Bochum were both relegated.
• Mainz surged into the top six with a dominant 4-1 win, while Leipzig was eliminated from Champions League contention after a draw with Werder Bremen.
• Heidenheim stunned Union Berlin 3-0, slipping into the relegation play-off spot.
• Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg shared the points in a 2-2 draw.
