Panaji, May 13: In a major step towards strengthening administrative infrastructure in North Goa, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Monday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a modern Government Office Complex in Bicholim Taluk.

The upcoming complex, with an estimated cost of Rs 57.33 crore, is envisioned as a one-stop hub for multiple government departments. It will house a library, an open hall, and other essential facilities to ensure streamlined services and improved governance. The project is expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, CM Sawant said, “This administrative complex will enhance the efficiency of public service delivery. The infrastructure will support a seamless digital interface and promote e-governance across departments. It’s part of our broader vision to create a transparent and citizen-friendly administrative ecosystem.”

The event saw the presence of Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye, Maem MLA Shri Premendra Shet, and other dignitaries, who lauded the government’s efforts in upgrading the region’s public infrastructure.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, held a review meeting with CM Sawant and Goa’s Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane in Panaji. The high-level meeting focused on the progress of flagship urban development schemes like AMRUT 2.0, PMAY-U, Smart Cities Mission, and Swachh Bharat Mission–Urban.

Khattar praised Goa's performance in key sectors and noted the state’s progress in power and water supply, stating, “Electricity has reached every household. The state’s plan for universal water access is commendable.”

In the meeting, CM Sawant also sought a special financial package of Rs 326.30 crore under AMRUT 2.0 for the 24x7 Drink-from-Tap project, aimed at improving water source augmentation and introducing smart monitoring systems. The Union Minister assured that the Centre would consider the proposal positively.

The day marked a significant move in Goa’s ongoing push to modernise its infrastructure, strengthen service delivery, and provide better amenities to its citizens.
