Mumbai, May 19: Amid rising speculation over India’s participation in this year’s Asia Cup amid tensions with Pakistan, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has clarified that no decision has been made on the matter yet.
India is slated to host the six-team T20 Asia Cup, but the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has not announced the schedule or venue. September is the tentative window for the tournament.

“The Asia Cup or any other ACC event issue has not been discussed at any level,” Saikia said on Monday. He emphasized that the BCCI has not communicated any decisions or taken steps regarding the event or the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup in Sri Lanka scheduled for June.
However, sources revealed the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup has been postponed, though the ACC has not confirmed this officially.
Speculation around India’s participation intensified following heightened India-Pakistan tensions after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which briefly disrupted both the IPL and Pakistan Super League (PSL). Both leagues resumed on May 17 after a ceasefire agreement on May 10, though political strains persist.
India head coach Gautam Gambhir recently voiced strong opposition to cricketing ties with Pakistan, stating there should be ‘absolutely no’ cricketing relations until terrorism stops.
Historically, BCCI seeks government approval before playing Pakistan in multinational events. In 2023, India did not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup due to lack of clearance, leading to a hybrid hosting model with matches held in Sri Lanka. India also played all matches of the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai rather than Pakistan for similar reasons.
India-Pakistan matches remain highly viewed and crucial for broadcast revenues in ICC and ACC tournaments, but political tensions have repeatedly disrupted cricketing ties and the Asia Cup’s continuity.
