Mumbai, May 23: Panic gripped the busy Gandhi Nagar area in Worli early Friday morning as a fire broke out at the Marshal Showroom located in Bharat Bazar on Dr E. Moses Road. The fire, classified as Level-I, was reported at around 4:46 AM and was successfully brought under control by 7:12 AM, thanks to the prompt action by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB).

The ground-plus-one-storey godown, with an AC sheet roof, was packed with highly flammable materials such as gift boxes, paper bundles, makeup products, clothes, stationery, furniture, and even a two-wheeler placed on the mezzanine floor. The fire, which began in the electrical wiring and installations, quickly spread to the stored items, affecting an area of nearly 900 square feet.

One firefighter, Ajindra Ganpat Sawant, sustained a minor injury to his right hand while dousing the flames. He was treated promptly, and no other injuries or civilian casualties were reported.

Firefighters battled thick smoke and hazardous conditions in the cramped commercial area to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby structures. “It could have been far worse given the nature of the stored items,” said an official from the fire brigade.

The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities have assured that safety checks and preventive measures will be reviewed to avoid such incidents in the future.

For now, Worli breathes a sigh of relief, grateful for the swift response and brave efforts of its fire personnel.
