Mangaluru/Udupi, May 26: Due to ongoing heavy rainfall across the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi, authorities have declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres on Monday, May 26.
In Udupi district, deputy commissioner Dr K Vidyakumari announced the closure of all anganwadi centres as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of children and staff amid the inclement weather.
Similarly, in Dakshina Kannada district, the administration has declared a holiday for all Anganwadi centres in response to the persistent heavy rains and associated risks.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert forecasting continued heavy rainfall from May 25 to 27 for the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
In light of the red alert declared in Udupi district, women and child development minister and Udupi district in-charge minister Laxmi Hebbalkar has instructed the district administration to implement precautionary measures throughout the district.
She has also appealed to the public to remain alert.
The district is experiencing continuous heavy rainfall, and more is forecast over the next three days. Precautionary measures must be strictly enforced in tourist spots, riverbanks, and coastal areas. The minister emphasized that tourists must be prohibited from entering dangerous locations.
She further stated that, if necessary, people residing along the sea and riverbanks should be relocated as a precautionary measure. Care centers must be opened for public convenience, and a 24-hour helpline should be operational in all seven taluks for the benefit of the people.
The minister urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the district administration.
