Bantwal: 17-year-old student dies of suspected dengue; health officials call for vigilance

Bantwal, May 30: In a tragic incident, a 17-year-old student from Kinnibetti in Amtadi village passed away on Friday, May 30, reportedly due to dengue fever, raising concern among health authorities and local residents.

The deceased, identified as Hitesh, son of Gopal Gowda, had been suffering from high fever for several days and was receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangaluru. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to the illness.

According to sources, Hitesh’s condition worsened due to a significant drop in platelet count—a common and dangerous complication linked to dengue. While a confirmed medical report is awaited, initial assessments point to dengue as the suspected cause of death.

In response to the incident, health officials have urged the public to remain vigilant. “Residents must take immediate preventive measures to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, especially stagnant water around homes,” a health officer stated.

Authorities have also advised people to watch for dengue symptoms such as sudden high fever, intense headaches, body pain, and skin rashes. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are crucial in preventing complications, officials warned.

In light of rising dengue cases in the region, local administrations have stepped up fogging operations and awareness campaigns to curb the spread of the disease.
