ED officer in Odisha arrested by CBI over Rs 5 crore bribe demand

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, May 31: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Chintan Raghuvanshi, a deputy director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Odisha, in connection with a Rs 5 crore bribery case.

Raghuvanshi, a 2013-batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was caught red-handed by CBI officials while allegedly accepting Rs 20 lac — the first instalment of the bribe — from a Bhubaneswar-based mining businessman, who also owns a hospital.

According to the FIR filed by the CBI, the businessman had been summoned by the ED in 2024 regarding a case registered against him in 2020. He stated that searches were conducted at his residence and office on January 8, 2025, followed by another summon in March. During a visit to the ED office, Raghuvanshi allegedly directed him to contact a private individual named Bhaghti for ‘relief’ in the case.

The complainant said Bhaghti conveyed Raghuvanshi’s demand of Rs 5 crore to avoid arrest and prevent the attachment of his hospital. When the businessman expressed his inability to pay the full amount, the demand was reportedly reduced to Rs 2 crore, with Rs 50 lac as an upfront payment.

The businessman then approached the CBI, which laid a trap and arrested Raghuvanshi while accepting part of the bribe. Further investigation is underway.

Bribe among govt. officials and workers are their birth right. No bribe no work done. If not paid then it is the famous dialogue from one of Sunny Deol film "Tareek pe Tareek" and nothing else. Just imagine how much crores these people might have amassed.
