Mangaluru, May 31: 6 Karnataka Air Squadron NCC, Mangalore, is currently conducting the Annual Training Camp (ATC) 2025 at St Joseph Engineering College, Vamanjoor for 10 days from May 24 to June 2. It has brought together 433 enthusiastic cadets of 11 various institutions of Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts for a comprehensive and enriching training experience.
The camp aims to cultivate patriotism, unity, discipline, leadership, and camaraderie among cadets through a well-rounded schedule of activities. Cadets also receive hands-on training in 0.22 rifle firing, skeet shooting, quad copter building, drill, yoga and plantation.
In addition to physical training, the camp aims at holistic development with a variety of games, sports competitions and cultural programs that foster team spirit and provides a platform for showcasing talent.
A special highlight of the camp is an educational visit to the NCC Hangar and the Air Traffic Control Complex at the Mangaluru International Airport for familiarisation with the Microlight Virus SW-80 Aircraft and functioning of ATC services at Old Bajpe airport. There the cadets were able to gain valuable insights into aviation operations.








This camp is organised under the command of camp commandant Wing Commander Parveen Bishnoi and deputy camp commandant Lieutenant Colonel PS Chauhan. The camp activities are gainfully enhanced by active participation of group commander, Mangaluru Col Viraj Kamath.
The air staff of 06 Karnataka Air Squadron NCC and the ANOs of all institutes including ANO of St Joseph Engineering College, Sh Nandan Bk are dedicatedly involved to enhance the overall learning and military training of the cadets.
The training for all the cadets starts early in the morning. They wake up around 5 am and make themselves available for PT and yoga followed by a drill session. Thereafter, there are lectures on various topics including NCC common subjects, and special aviation-related subjects like principles of flight, aircraft standard operating procedures, airframe, instruments, meteorology, airmanship and navigation.
During afternoons, there are lectures by eminent guest speakers on variety of informative topics namely cybercrime, personality development, military leadership, freshwater fishes of Western Ghats, ‘Art of public speaking, ‘Gender equity, Traffic safety and security, First Aid training, disaster management, Animal welfare and rescue, fire hazards, life on earth and under water etc.
The cadets are also exposed to the firing of 0.22 rifles wherein they practice firing on a fixed target at 25 yards in a form of grouping and application. The camp carries out not only the various NCC training activities but also organises competition among cadets in various disciplines such as 0.22 grouping, 0.22 application, individual drill, contingent drill, Written exam on special air subjects, GK and current affairs.
The cadets also participate in social activities like the ‘Clean India Campaign’ to keep the campsite clean and promote hygiene. The cultural values are also encouraged by keeping them engaged in an informal cultural gathering, wherein they practice and then participate in various events like group songs, group dances, debates and skits.
The aim of conducting all these competitions is to promote a healthy competitive spirit which encourages them all to perform better in every sphere of life as informed and capable youths of rising India.
