Mangaluru, Jun 7: The spirit of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) filled the air in Mangaluru as thousands of Muslims gathered at the iconic Idgah Maidan on Light House Hill to offer special prayers and mark the sacred occasion with heartfelt devotion and joyful camaraderie on Saturday June 7.
Wearing traditional attire, worshippers assembled early in the morning and joined in communal prayers, offering namaz in unison as a symbol of faith and unity.

As the prayers concluded, the atmosphere turned celebratory with people embracing one another, exchanging the warm greeting of ‘Eid Mubarak,’ and spreading joy through handshakes and smiles.
The day saw Muslim families visiting each other’s homes, strengthening bonds of affection and goodwill, and sharing the joy of the festival through conversation, hospitality, and festive meals.
Several mosques across the city also hosted special Eid prayers, bringing together communities in a vibrant celebration of faith, compassion, and togetherness.
The Muslim community across Udupi district celebrated Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) with great joy and religious fervour.
Special Eid prayers were held in mosques across Udupi city, Kaup, Brahmavar, Kundapur, Byndoor, Hebri, and Karkala taluks. Devotees, dressed in new attire, gathered in large numbers to offer congregational prayers early in the morning. In several mosques, separate arrangements were made for women to perform the Eid Namaz.
At Udupi Jamia Masjid, the Eid prayers were led by Maulana Abdur Rasheed Nadwi. At the Anjuman Masjid, Maulana Inayatullah Rizvi conducted the prayers, while at the Brahmagiri Hashimi Masjid, Imam Maulana Ubaidur Rahman Nadwi led the congregation.
The central mosque of the Udupi District United Jamaat, the Mooluru Juma Masjid, witnessed special Eid prayers and a sermon (khutbah) led by Khateeb Hafiz Muhammad Ashraf Sakhafi.
In Kundapur, a special Eid procession was taken out from the Juma Masjid in the morning and converged at the Eidgah grounds, where the prayers were conducted under the leadership of Maulana Karar Hussain.
Religious leaders on the occasion emphasized the values of peace and communal harmony. Imam Maulana Ubaidur Rahman Nadwi of Brahmagiri Hashimi Masjid urged community members to refrain from posting derogatory or offensive content about other communities on social media platforms.
He also raised concerns about the increasing drug abuse among youth and appealed to parents to guide their children to stay away from harmful substances.
In view of the celebrations, elaborate security arrangements were made by the police across the district to ensure that no untoward incidents occurred during the festivities.
