Mangaluru, Jun 10: A dangerously hanging tree near the Nanthoor auto stand has been posing a serious threat for over a week, raising questions about the promptness of the Mangaluru City Corporation’s (MCC) response. Locals are questioning whether authorities are waiting for an accident or a life to be lost before taking action to remove the fallen tree.
Additionally, near the Nanthoor police outpost, a key location in Mangaluru, garbage heaps and gas pipes have been carelessly dumped into roadside drains. This has been a persistent issue for a long time, yet neither local representatives nor officials seem to have addressed it.

During heavy rains and strong winds, the blocked drains cause water to overflow onto the roads, leading to serious inconveniences for the public. Despite the problem being so visible, it appears to escape the attention of those responsible.
The situation raises doubts about the city’s aspirations to become a ‘Smart City’. Residents claim that while officials and planners may be aiming for a smart image, the ground reality remains marred by garbage piles and unsafe public infrastructure.
Locals further added that had the City Corporation taken measures to resolve such basic issues, overflowing drains and public hardships could have been avoided. They now urge authorities to take immediate action to prevent any potential accidents or health hazards.
