Multiple cases of dangerous bike riding reported in Mangaluru; public demands stern action

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Two alarming incidents of reckless and illegal bike riding have surfaced in the city, drawing public outrage and calls for immediate action from traffic authorities.

The first incident occurred on June 7 in the evening on the route from Yenepoya (Deralakatte) to KS Hegde. A two-wheeler bearing registration number KA 19 HL 7316 was seen carrying four passengers, a clear violation of traffic norms. None of the individuals were wearing helmets, and the riding was described as highly dangerous and erratic. Further scrutiny revealed that the bike's emission certificate had expired, raising additional safety and legal concerns. Citizens have demanded swift action against the rider to prevent such violations in the future.

The second case emerged on June 12, when a viral video began circulating on social media, showing another shocking instance of dangerous riding. The video, captured by a person travelling in a car behind, shows a biker without a helmet carrying two pillion riders and performing reckless manoeuvres along the stretch between Pandit House and Thokkottu. The footage shows the biker dangerously weaving through traffic, endangering not just his own life but also those of his passengers and other road users.

Both incidents have sparked widespread concern, with the public urging the traffic police and relevant authorities to take strict punitive measures against the offenders. Residents are calling for enhanced enforcement of traffic laws and routine checks to curb such blatant violations that put many lives at risk.

Its better to take pics or videos of the offenders and send it to traffic department. So it has a proof and then take strict action against the offenders. In another neighbouring state the parivahan app has an option of taking the video and photo and location of the incident that directly transferred to the department hiding the informants details.

It is very dangerous while driving on road with these types of riders. It is familiar on the outskirts of Mangalore. Last week I have seen a family of 5 riding on a motorcycle without any safety gears (husband/wife and three children) taking turn near KC Road, Talapady.

These scooties are posing a big risk to publicin general. I have seen youngsters below 18 have started riding scooties posing danger to all ,parents are least concerned even some are teaching these childrens to ride , which is very fatal to children as well as others on the road. Authorities should ban these scooty rides from city limit which will limit the accidents and also clear some jams caused by reckless driving, blocking and overtaking.

Our Traffic Police have to deal such cases strictly cancelling the licence of the rider and impose heavy penalty on pillion riders who didnt wear helmets. In Mangalore City also some bikes are running with overspeed and horrible noise. They should also be booked.
