Mangaluru, June 17: Heavy rainfall on June 16 caused damage in various parts of Mangaluru taluk, affecting roads, houses, and forcing the relocation of multiple families due to artificial flooding.

In Kandavara gram panchayat limits, the old airport road leading from Bajpe to Adyapadi via Bailubidu has developed cracks due to waterlogging. With parts of the road uneven and posing a threat to motorists, engineers from the Panchayat Raj department inspected the area. Vehicular movement on the road has been temporarily suspended for safety.

In Merlapadavu–Adyar Padavu, soil erosion beneath a concrete road has led to visible cracks, raising fears of a potential road collapse. Traffic has been temporarily halted here as well due to safety concerns.

In Delanthabettu village under the jurisdiction of Surinje gram panchayat, the Nandini River overflowed, causing artificial flooding. With the support of the fire and emergency services, three families were relocated to safer areas.

In Kemmanjur village under Adyar gram panchayat, water entered several houses due to similar flooding.

Within Mangaluru City Corporation limits, heavy rains caused one house in Derebail to be completely damaged, while two others sustained partial damage.

Partial damage was also reported to four houses across the villages of Attavar, Arkula, Muloor, and Padukodi. In Vikas Nagar near Muloor, water entered three houses located close to the National Highway due to intense downpour.

In Dayambu of Kannur village, a landslide led to rainwater and mud entering nearby homes, prompting the relocation of two families.

The Mangaluru tahsildar, in an official release, confirmed that no loss of life or livestock has been reported across the taluk.
