Rome, Jan 27: Indians united in the city to celebrate Republic Day of India on Thursday January 26. The flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Indian Embassy in Rome.
The spirit of patriotism united the diasporic Indian community in Rome to unfurl the tricolour marking the celebrations of the Republic day. This marks the 63 years of the adoption of the Indian Constitution.
The Ambassador of India to Italy, Debabrata Saha, hoisted the flag and read out President Pratibha Patil's address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day.
Diplomats and representatives of government in various capacities of mission, priest’s, religious, businessmen and students shared their sentiments of devotion and respect. Emotions were seen soaring high in singing the national anthem with the spirit of honour and respect with eyes contemplating over the national flag.
Also members from the Konkani Kuttam Rome joined in this national celebration pledging their services, loyalty and prayers to the motherland. Susheela and Peter Rodrigues, committee members, Prof Fr Elias Frank, former gurkhar and many others manifested their presence.
The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a get-together hosted by the Indian Embassy.
